1st Class GradeBook allows you to drop the lowest score for each activity type (category).  If you activate this feature, the lowest score in the specified activity type will be excluded from the student’s average (as if you had manually excused him/her, except the letters Low EX will replace the mark on all reports).  If a student’s lowest mark is duplicated, 1st Class GradeBook will choose the activity with the higher total point value.  The Marks screen will not be affected by this option.

 

  1. Grading Methods – Points & Weighting

1st Class GradeBook will allow you to choose several grading methods. You can choose from a strictly points grading system, weighted categories and equally weighted activities within a category.

 

     Choosing “Use Points” under activity weighting instructs 1st Class GradeBook to use the total possible points as the weight for that activity.  This in turn means that the weighted average will now actually be the points which a student has achieved for a given activity type.   In short, the weight column in the reports will be replaced by total possible points achieved by the student.  Grades can be calculated several different ways.  1st Class GradeBook supports all different calculations methods.  You must be sure that you have selected the method that is appropriate for you.  Here are the different methods:
